After Sicily and Sardinia, the island of Cyprus comes as the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. There are many people who consider Cyprus as a part of the Middle East because it is located in the Eastern Mediterranean and the south of Anatolian Peninsula, which is also called the Asia Minor. In the Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus does not stand alone. In fact, it is surrounded by its neighbor countries like Turkey, which is 75 km north of Cyprus, Egypt on the south, Israel on the southeast, and Syria and Lebanon on the East.

The landscape

There are variety of landscapes that you can find in Cyprus like beaches, mountains, and plains. The central Plain of Mesaoria covers some north part of Cyprus with Kyrenia and Pentadactylos mountains. To the south and west part of the island, you will find the series of Troodos Mountains. The mountains cover about half of the island’s area. On the mountains and the woods, you would be able to see many different kinds of trees and plants, and various species of animals too. If you like going to beaches and enjoy the sunshine, you would be very happy staying in this island, since there are plenty of beautiful beaches surround Cyprus.

The city life

If you like to feel the city life in Cyprus, you need to spend your time to visit its capital city, which is Nicosia. Besides that, there are other several major cities which offer great attractions for visitors like Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta, and Kyrenia. Many cities would offer you interesting attractions like architectural sites, museums, and many others. Of course, there are also local restaurants and cafes that would lest you taste the traditional cuisine. In the evening, you can definitely take a look around to see the atmosphere of the nightlife in Cyprus.

Four seasons in Cyprus

Like many other European countries, there are four seasons in Cyprus. But because of the Mediterranean influence, you could still enjoy the sunshine through out the year. The heat in the summer might be very intense while the fall season offers you a cooler temperature. In some areas, there would be mostly rain during the winter. But because Cyprus has series of mountains, it gives you the opportunity to enjoy some winter sports there. If you like to see variety of colorful flowers, spring would be the perfect season for you. During spring season, you will be able to see different kinds of orchids, along with many other species of flowers, plants, and trees.
