As a visitor or resident of Cyprus, you would feel comfortable with the health care system in this country because it is known as having a good quality of health system. Even the World health Organization recognizes Cyprus as one of the healthiest countries in the Mediterranean area.
There are public health service, private clinics, and hospitals that will give medical and health treatment. They usually operate in big cities or main urban areas. But it does not mean that you would face any difficulties when you stay in smaller areas because you can find several health centers to provide the medical care.
Insurance
If you are a resident and working in Cyprus, your medical need will be covered by the social security system. Otherwise, you would have to have a private insurance. Visitors that come from EU countries are suggested to have a European Health Card during visit in Cyprus. Although it is highly recommended to have insurance, the price of the health service is very affordable, compare to many other European countries.
Going to the doctor
For a consultation with a doctor, you can expect to pay around C£10 to C£12. For a treatment, the cost would be around half of what you would have to pay in northern European countries. The opening hours of private doctors and clinics are usually from Monday to Friday, at 9am to 1pm. You can always go to the hospital in case of emergency. But if you need some medical help in the evening, but not too urgent that you need to go to the hospital, you can call the Night Chemists. They are normally open in the evening, during weekends and holidays.

To find information about doctors on call, you can easily dial a certain number, which varies depending on your location. Below there is a list of different cities and the numbers that you need to dial for doctors on call. - Nicosia: 1422 - Paphos: 1426 - Limassol: 1425 - Larnaca: 1424
For the Night Chemists, there are also different numbers for different cities. - Nicosia: 1402 - Paphos: 1406 - Limassol: 1405 - Larnaca: 1404
In case of emergency If you are urgently in need to call the police, ambulance, or the fire fighters, you should dial 199. For English-speaking operators, you need to dial 112.
Vaccination
Some people take vaccinations before going to Cyprus. It is best to consult with your general practitioner in order to find out if it is necessary to take and which kind of vaccinations.
