Food is a part of a culture because from one country to another you will find different variation of dishes. Cyprus definitely has mouth-watering dishes because this country grows some spices that you will not find in other parts of Europe. Some things that you might want to find during your visit:
Mezes
There are many places offering Meze. It is a collection of small appetizers that could be up to 20 to 30 dishes. It is nice to eat Mezes with a group of friends or family. The kinds of dish that you can find when you order Meze might include different kind of cheeses, smoked ham, olives, octopus, houmous, barbouni, tomatoes, homemade sausage, stuffed vine leaves, fresh fish, shrimps, etc.
Moussaka It is minced meat, usually beef or lamb, mixed with some spices and then covered with layers of potatoes and vegetables like zucchini, eggplant, onion, and sprinkled with some herbs. It is served hot, right away from the oven.
Souflakia If you are familiar with kebab dish, you might like this one. It is pork or lamb skewered and roasted. People usually eat it with pitta bread.
Patcha Lamb stew which is usually served with lemon.
Afelia Pork meat soaked in wine, then sautéed with oil, coriander and wine. It gives a juicy taste to the meat.

Sheftalia It is a kind of rissoles with meat, onions, and spices wrapped together creating a sausage-like dish.

Cyprus has plenty of meat dishes. But it does not mean that vegetarians cannot enjoy the tradition dishes. There are many different kinds of vegetarian food as well. For example there are mezzas which are served for vegetarians. And the others might include:
Trakhanas It is known as a winter food. This is a soup made of grain soaked in yoghurt. It might sound very simple but it is a delicious dish and very popular during colder season.
Yemista These are stuffed vegetables. The kinds of vegetables used for yemista are tomatoes, peppers, onions, and zucchini. They are usually stuffed with tomatoes, rice, and herbs. Minced meat is also a common thing to be stuffed in yemista. So if you are a vegetarian, you need to make sure with the restaurant not to put the meat in.
Salads, beans, and fruit Cyprus has fresh vegetables all year round so salads would be the perfect choice to refresh your day. There are also bean dishes like louvia, which is a soup made from fava beans. If you like fruit, you can enjoy fresh fruit like strawberries, loquats, apricots, watermelons, plums, cherries, pears, grapes, and oranges.
